Founded in 1972, Padatik began as a small Kathak studio and has grown into one of eastern India's most respected non-profit cultural and educational institutions.
Padatik — literally, "one who walks" — was founded by a small circle of artists and educators who believed that classical Indian dance, theatre, and martial arts deserved a home that was both rigorous and accessible.
Over five decades we have trained more than 12,000 students, premiered hundreds of original productions, and partnered with cultural institutions across India and abroad.
In 2018 we opened our AI & IT Training Centre, extending the same ethos — free, excellent, dignified — into the digital domain, with a particular focus on young women from marginalised communities.
